Frederick Oporia is an Injury Epidemiologist and working as a Research Associate in the Department of Disease Control and Environmental Health. He leads the Trauma, Injuries, and Disability (TRIAD) unit at Makerere University School of Public Health, taking after Dr. Olive Kobusingye who retired in December 2022. Frederick holds a Master of Public Health from Makerere University. In the department, Frederick is actively involved in teaching and training as well as supervision of students’ research projects. His research interests are in Injury Epidemiology (Drowning prevention and road traffic injuries). He has coordinated several projects in the department, in partnership with the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Safe Way Right Way-Uganda. Frederick is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Injury Epidemiology and Prevention, with a focus on Drowning Prevention.
He has worked in public and private Health Training Institutions since 2008 and also worked for over 7 years as a public health practitioner, five of which were in a government institution under Kampala Capital City Authority. Frederick has several publications in peer-reviewed journals and a distinguished member of standards committees at the Uganda National Bureau of Standards. Frederick has vast experience in presentations in several international and national conferences.
