Media coverage of drowning should not stop at “another boat capsized.” That was one of the key messages from a strategic dialogue convened by the Global Health Advocacy Incubator at Four Points Hotel on 11 August, marking World Drowning Prevention Day.
The dialogue brought together government, civil society, development partners, academia, and media to chart a path forward: reporting that captures the real causes behind drowning incidents, concrete plans to operationalize the Inland Water Transport Act (2021), and a commitment to finalize Uganda’s National Drowning Prevention Strategy.
We were honored to be recognized as a key contributor, represented by Dr. Charles Semugabo and Dr. Jimmy Osuret. Our role continues to be bringing reliable evidence, capacity building, and knowledge translation into policy and practice.
Drowning prevention needs all of us at the table and we are grateful to be part of this collective effort to Unite to Turn the Tide.
